The teapot has a bulbous body rising from a spreading foot with incorved sides, a curved spout, loop handle, and a very slightly conical cover with a turnip-shaped knob. There are cream slip bands round the spout and cover, and a dab on the top of the handle. On each side of the body there is an applied moulded relief of the Royal Arms with the motto DIE ET MON DIT (sic) on a ribbon, and a squirrel below. The cover is decorated with a squirrel, a bird, and a trefoil leaf. It is not clear who operated the pottery in the 1740s but by 1750 it belonged to Thomas Whieldon (1719-95) who let it to William Meir in that year, and in 1752 to Edward Warburton. Whieldon had since 1747 occupied a factory at Fenton Vivian about half a mile away.
