Staffordshire potters were the first and largest producers, though similar wares were also made in other regions and pink lustreware is often particularly associated with Sunderland. Minute amounts of gold were used to produce copper, gold, pink or purple lustre, depending on the type of clay, lustre formula, number of layers and firing temperature; platinum was used to mimic silver. Copper lustre was a popular choice for highlighting moulded wares and for broad borders covering the neck rim and handle. By c.1830 it was used to mimic the metal itself, by dipping the whole vessel into the lustre, perhaps with a relief or reserved band of decoration."},{"value":"Most lustreware was made for everyday use, and this example is probably a milk jug. Factory markings are rare, but features of this jug, such as its shape, the rich copper lustre, the ridged white bands, the sprigs depicting putti and the pink lines on the handle have all been linked to wares made by John Shorthose, who traded as Shorthose & Heath until 1815 and after that as Shorthose & Co, at Shelton and Hanley, until 1823 when he was declared bankrupt (see Gibson, p.89). Similar sprigs have also been found on jugs by Enoch Wood."}],"periods":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-106498","uid":"adlib-term-106498","uuid":"272179a1-524b-3f36-aab7-bf342ce484d6"},"summary_title":"19th Century, Early"}],"places":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-113577","uid":"adlib-term-113577","uuid":"cd0ed1a6-635d-38f9-a89b-486feecbafb1"},"hierarchies":[[{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"England"}],"summary_title":"England","type":"country"}]],"note":[{"value":"or Hanley"}],"summary_title":"Shelton"},{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-108171","uid":"adlib-term-108171","uuid":"c943fe08-bd72-32ab-823c-e1eeb56717b3"},"hierarchies":[[{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"England"}],"summary_title":"England","type":"country"}]],"summary_title":"Burslem"}]}]},"materials":[{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-42861","uid":"adlib-term-42861","uuid":"5b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956c"},"summary_title":"earthenware"}}],"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","units":"cm","value":"8.2"},{"dimension":"Width","units":"cm","value":"11.2"}]},"multimedia":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"media-46804","uid":"adlib-media-46804","uuid":"3e369c42-9991-3d5b-bcb5-8ef68cfb75c6"},"processed":{"large":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/C_79_1997_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583516598,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"mid":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/mid_C_79_1997_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":649},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":500}]},"modified":1742583516598,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"original":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/C_79_1997_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583516598,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"preview":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/preview_C_79_1997_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":325},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":250}]},"modified":1742583516598,"resizable":true,"type":"image"}},"sort":"0","type":{"base":"media","type":"image"}},{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"media-46805","uid":"adlib-media-46805","uuid":"a25e66ff-bed0-3476-97c1-0c35b22c349a"},"processed":{"large":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/C_79_1997_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583544016,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"mid":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/mid_C_79_1997_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":649},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":500}]},"modified":1742583544016,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"original":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/C_79_1997_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583544016,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"preview":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa2\/preview_C_79_1997_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":325},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":250}]},"modified":1742583544016,"resizable":true,"type":"image"}},"sort":"1","type":{"base":"media","type":"image"}}],"name":[{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-89400","uid":"adlib-term-89400","uuid":"194f8c99-93e1-30de-9465-9209222dafaa"},"summary_title":"jug"}},{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-134264","uid":"adlib-term-134264","uuid":"8114af56-ddd1-39a6-ad35-e6d472162090"},"summary_title":"relief-moulded jug"}}],"note":[{"type":"history note","value":"unknown before G.H.W.
