        <value>Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, whose festival, Floralia, held at the end of April and beginning of May was instituted in 240 BCE. In art she was usually represented holding a flowers or a wreath of flowers.</value>
      </note>
      <note>
        <value>When purchased by Dr Glaisher, the dealer, Mr Cole, attributed the figure to the Pratt factory 'because of the orange colour'. However, very few items are known marked Pratt, and by the late 20th century the name was being used as a generic term for underglaze painted ware and figures coloured in blue, green, yellow, orange, brown and black.</value>
