  <description>
    <value>Dark buff earthenware, tin-glazed beige overall. Painted in dark blue, green, yellow, brownish-orange, brown, greyish-black, black, and white. Circular with shallow curved sides and slight central depression.
The central medallion is painted in green, brown, and white with Adam, Eve, and Cain (?) with a group of animals and two birds in the foreground, surrounded by concentric blue bands, brownish-orange radial strokes, and blue and white dots. On the sides, four shaped panels, edged with blue and filled with brownish-orange trellis with white spots in the spaces, alternate with four smaller panels, filled with yellow trellis and white spots. The ground is decorated with white scrolls, stylised flowers and dots. In the middle of the back there is a black `N' superimposed over a brown spiral with a row of black splodges above and below; on the sides, curved greyish-black and yellow lines radiate in opposite directions to form a trellis with brownish-orange spots in the spaces.</value>

      <notes>Cf. p. 439, no. 580, a plate with a similar type of border motif. The author mentions the Fitzwilliam's plate in n. 1.The rather heavy weight for size, the use of white on white decoration and the knot patterns indicate that this is a Renaissance revival piece.</notes>
