There two peg marks on the back of the rim, and part of two more.The tureen and its cover are in the form of a melon with a short stalk at one end. The cover has a handle in the shape of a stem with two groups of three leaves at its thick end, and three at its tip. The lower part is attached to a deep oval dish with curved sides opening outwards to the a wavy rim, and standing on a footring. The melon and its handle is painted naturalistically in yellow and shades of green. The dish is decorated with seven stylized floral sprays, and an insect. A dark brown band runs round the wavy edge. Dr Glaisher initially attributed it to Winterthur in his MS Catalogue, but in a later typed version, put 'Swiss or French faience'. Rackham (1935) attributed it to Lenzberg on the basis of the mark C.B. which also occurs on a plate attributed to Lenzburg in the Victoria and Albert Museum (C.133-1930).
