    <value>Band sampler worked in polychrome silks with alphabets and dozens of spot motifs including figures, animals (birds, horses, deer, a goat, snail, owl, frog, lion) and a mermaid.</value>
  </description>
  <description>
    <value>Linen band sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in double running, back, satin, eyelet, cross, Montenegrin cross, trellis and detached needle lace stitches. Three edges are finished with buttonhole stitch and there is a selvedge at the top. The sampler consists of two joined pieces. The horizontal bands of inscription are between the upper and lower sections which are densely worked with dozens of small spot motifs. The inscription is made up of two alphabets, the name 'Ioyce Leedes' and the date '8 JUNE 1675'. At the top there is an incomplete alphabet and numerals in rather less structured bands. There is also a small panel with the initials 'IL' at the bottom of the sampler. The larger, upper includes includes a female figure, a mermaid, a male figure, a person on horseback, a reindeer, a couple holding hands, an owl, other birds, smaller animals, insects, and stylized flowers.</value>
