  <description>
    <value>Cotton, double canvas, Berlin wool work sampler, embroidered with polychrome wools and silks in cross-stitch with some long-armed cross-stitch. The edges are bound with green silk ribbon. The sampler consists of twenty-nine detached motifs, which are predominantly geometric designs, with some including stylized flower and foliage patterns. There is also a group of four leaf and bud motifs. Some textural variety is given to the simple stitching by highlighting a selection of the patterns with thick, lightly twisted silk.</value>
