  • Illuminated Manuscript. Psalter. Latin. Gothic bookhand (textualis). Regensburg, Germany, 1270-1280. Parchment, xiv paper flyleaves (modern pencil foliation I – XV) + 174 fols. + xxiii paper flyleaves (modern pencil foliation 175 – 180, 180a, 180b, 181 – 193, XVI – XVII), 157 x 123 (125 x 89) mm, 16 long lines, ruled in brown ink. BINDING: 17th century, brown leather over wooden boards, leather and brass straps on lower cover, brass catchplates on upper cover, parchment tabs, re-backed and repaired. CONTENTS: Fols. 3r – 172v Psalter, Gallican, with Canticles, Te Deum, Pater Noster, Apostles Creed, and Quicumque vult. DECORATION: Eight full-page framed miniatures on gold grounds: fol. 1r Annunciation; fol. 1v Nativity; fol. 2r Ascension; fol. 2v Christ in Majesty with heads of Evangelists’ symbols; fol. 173r Adoration of the Magi; fol. 173v Flagellation; fol. 174r Crucifixion; fol. 174v Resurrection. Historiated initial in blue on gold ground within green and red frame: fol. 25r Psalm 26, [D, 10 ll.] man standing within initial and pointing at text. ORNAMENTATION: Blue, red and green stylized foliage initials [9 – 10 ll.] on gold ground within green and red frames for Psalms 1, 38, 51, 52, 68, 80, 97, 101, and 109 (fols. 3r, 40r, 53v, 54v, 68v, 86v, 104r, 107r, 123r); alternate red and blue pen-flourished initials [3 – 4 ll.] for remaining Psalms and Canticles; alternate red and blue one-line penwork verse initials.
