<value>1 sheet folded, 3pp. De La Borde was a writer, composer and favourite of Louis XV; he was born in 1734 and decapitated in 1794.
The letter, written from Venice, relates to his acquisition of paintings (two Teniers and one Raoux) on the order of the Countess du Barry. He emphasizes that M. d’Henin is to send the works to her directly and soon, discusses the mode of payment, and points out that that this direct correspondence between M d’Henin and the Countess de Barry might be useful to both him and his friend in the future, as it will cause her to become interested in them.

He further describes how, at the residence of the French ambassador, he and his friends as well as several servants were severely poisoned by verdigris found in a saucepan. He has now recovered and plans to leave for Rome the next day. He asks M d’Henin to show the Pope the part of the letter by the Countess which concerns the Pope, and advises that the Pope send her a letter of thanks and continues to maintain the favourable opinion she has of him. On his return to Paris, he hopes to complete the plans he and M d’Henin have begun. The letter ends with many strong expressions of affection.</value>
