John Romney writes to Hayley providing information about George Romney's travels, cartoons "from the Fable of Cupid & Psyche". With reference to Christ in the Wilderness, mentions how he encouraged his father to complete paintings, until " in consequence of his unfortunate connection with the French Woman he drove me from his house". John Romney then ascribes his father's failure to finish paintings, and the eventual deterioration in his cognitive capacities to this affair. Finishes by saying it would have been better if his father's friends had "singlely [sic] and collectively remonstrated with him in the early stages of his attachment..."</value>
