The opera - which Hayley originally called The Trial of the Rock (see Hayley\/ & Hayley\/ for 2 ms drafts), was performed in 1792 under the title of \"Zelma or the Will 'o' the Wisp\".\n\nMeyer writes that Harris approves Hayley's plan to situate the action in Gibraltar (\"at the time of the Moorish Caliphs in Spain\": Hayley, Memoirs V. 1 p355\"), asks Hayley to start writing quickly, as the scenes would take 3-4 months to paint. Meyer has promised to produce some of the \"decorations\". He is soon to dine with Harris and wants to be able to tell him that Hayley is \"at Work\".\n\nThe letter also includes some specific discussion of finances: when certain payments are and how much is needed, and a postscript asking Hayley to mention Meyer's son - \"who is now looking towards a little Patronage\" - to Steele (probably Thomas Steele (1753-1823) who, at that time was Joint Secretary to the Treasury)."}]},"identifier":[{"accession_number":"Hayley\/IV\/95","primary":true,"type":"accession number","value":"Hayley\/IV\/95"},{"priref":"110005237","type":"priref","value":"110005237"},{"type":"uri","uri":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110005237","value":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110005237"}],"institutions":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-149638","uid":"adlib-agent-149638","uuid":"7376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8"},"summary_title":"The Fitzwilliam Museum"}],"lifecycle":{"creation":[{"date":[{"earliest":1787,"latest":1787,"value":"1787-06-02"}],"maker":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-83981","uid":"adlib-agent-83981","uuid":"211f70ee-9e1f-33f1-b453-ffb4d580dfda"},"summary_title":"Majer, Jeremias"}]}]},"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"value":"1 letter"}]},"summary_title":"Hayley\/IV\/95","title":[{"value":"Jeremiah Meyer to William Hayley: letter"}],"type":{"base":"object","type":"OBJECT"}}
