Bunce writes mostly of his attempts - at Hayley' request - to locate a wheelchair for Tom Hayley that can be used in the garden, and which Tom can wheel himself around in. He also mentions Francis Lowndes' "Gymnasticon", which Hayley has asked him about, saying "it is merely a kind of Turner's lathe with treadles & handles for a patient to sit in a room & exercise himself but when I saw it was not made to move from its place".

Bunce visited Merlin (John Joseph Merlin, clockmaker, musical-instrument maker and inventor of the self-propelled wheelchair) who "very civilly shewed me half his museum, kept me talking for above an hour & then as civilly assured me that his work was too good for a garden...". Merlin recommended a maker called Webb in Kensington, but thought Webb's wheelchairs were not designed for users to propel themselves as Merlin's were.

He then spoke to his colleague Mr Reke, the mechanist of naval works, who offered "to get the mechanical part made himself".

Bunce also visited Thomas Weeks (who had a museum of mechanical curiosities in Tichborne Street), who had a similar chair to Merlin's (both were mahogany and upholstered in red leather with brass nails): his cost 17 guineas; Merlin's 17/2 guineas. Weeks told Bunce that a plain one would cost 15 guineas. So, Bunce has asked Reke to start work, and, as Bunce thought the wheels on the other chairs too narrow to use in the garden, has ordered wheels 1 ft in diameter & 2 inches thick for the chair being made for Tom.

Bunce then provides instructions and a sketch for Farr on how to finish a shelf adjacent to a picture frame, and instructions and a question about gates.</value>
