<value>3 sheets with Cockerell's reply written on reverse of Nicholson letter.
Nicholson writes that he has left three canvases. Two are of Smuts, number one painted from life being “pretty bad” and number two being better but “still far from good”. The third is “The Little Gate of Honour in the snow”. In his reply Cockerell selects number 1 as the best likeness and also states he would like to have the “Gate of Honour”.</value>
