Richard Thompson, the father, was a seal engraver at Cheapside as was his father and brother. He was the son of Thomas Thompson and was apprenticed to his brother Thomas (the younger) for seven years from from 5th March 1794 to 7 April 1801. He had two sons who followed in the family business and were both apprenticed to him \u2013 Richard and Thomas. His son Richard was apprenticed to him from 5th July 1830 to 5th December 1827.
