<value>This is the title page for 'English Landscape'. 'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text.

In his explanatory notes (Constable/EL/6/1), R.B. Beckett describes this page as: ''6. Title-page issued with 1st number in 1830: Shirley's A 2.'' There is a pencil inscription below the title page, perhaps left by E.E. Leggatt (he has left remarks on other material as well). It reads:
''Unique
Date 1830
Showing the artist was preparing his description 3 years before
the actual publication''

The title page is attached to a large sheet which has been a part of a large brown binding (Constable/EL/2/MS36-1953/35) - this is the verso of the sheet with Constable/EL/2/MS36-1953/6.</value>
