'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text. The leaf has been a part of a large brown binding (Constable/EL/2/MS36-1953/35). The sheet has been labelled 'xiii'. There is a pencil inscription on the top right, perhaps left by E.E. Leggatt (he has left remarks on other material as well). It reads: ''Word Horace added & many alterations in text - / No 2''. In his explanatory notes (Constable/EL/6/1), R.B. Beckett describes this leaf and two other items as: ''13-15. Do./Jan 1833: Shirley's A 5 - 7. (Here marked Nos. 1-3). A duplicate of this page (Constable/EL/2/1/13) is also part of the collection.
