<value>This is an epigraph page for 'English Landscape'. 'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text.

This epigraph features three poems - by William Wordsworth, Virgil and Ovid. The second verse is from the Roman poet, Virgil's work: Georgics Book II, lines 485–486. It translates to: ''Let my delight be the country, and the running streams amid the dells—may I love the waters and the woods, though I be unknown to fame.'' The third is a quotation by the Roman poet, Ovid.

A duplicate of this page (Constable/EL/2/MS36-1953/8) is also part of the collection. In his explanatory notes, R.B. Beckett, the donor, believes that this page came out in 1832 or 1833 (see Constable/EL/6/1).</value>
