'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text. \n\nThis page features two poems. The first is from the Roman poet, Virgil's work: Georgics Book II, lines 485\u2013486. It translates to: ''Let my delight be the country, and the running streams amid the dells\u2014may I love the waters and the woods, though I be unknown to fame.'' The second poem is by the Scottish poet and playwright, James Thomson. The poem is titled 'The Study and Beauties of the Works of Nature'. \n\nA duplicate of this page (Constable\/EL\/2\/MS36-1953\/9) is also part of the collection. In his explanatory notes, R.B.
