'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text. In his accompanying text, Constable sought to explain his work. He did so because \u2018many can read print & cannot read mezzotint\u2019 (R.B. Beckett, John Constable\u2019s Correspondence III, p. 108). \n\nThe is appears to be the edited version of the previous item (Constable\/EL\/2\/1\/17).\n\nIn the last line of the first paragraph, some words have been crossed-out with black ink.
