These are related to their project, \u2018English Landscape\u2019. 'English Landscape' or 'Various Subjects of Landscape, Characteristic of English Scenery' was a project undertaken by John Constable and the printmaker, David Lucas. It comprised of twenty-two mezzotints, and was issued between June 1830 and July 1832. A second edition was also prepared alongside letterpress text.\n\nThe letters document the multiple considerations, changes and revisions leading up to the publication of 'English Landscape'. Constable provided detailed instructions to Lucas so that the final product was as he desired.\n\nThese letters have been transcribed in two published editions: \n1. Andrew Shirley (1930) \u2018The Published Mezzotints of David Lucas after John Constable R.A.: A Catalogue and Historical Account\u2019. Oxford: Clarendon Press; and\/or,\n2. R.B. Beckett (1966) \u2018John Constable\u2019s Correspondence IV: Patrons, Dealers and Fellow Artists\u2019. Suffolk Records Society.\n\nThe transcripts in these editions, however, contain some discrepancies. The transcripts included in the item descriptions attempt to document the letters as they were, documenting even the formatting, spacing, spelling and grammatical errors. The general context and background is also provided where possible. Square brackets [ ] and 't\/n' (i.e., transcriber's notes) have been used to provide additional notes."}]},"identifier":[{"accession_number":"Constable\/EL\/1\/1","primary":true,"type":"accession number","value":"Constable\/EL\/1\/1"},{"priref":"110009117","type":"priref","value":"110009117"},{"type":"uri","uri":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110009117","value":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110009117"}],"institutions":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-149638","uid":"adlib-agent-149638","uuid":"7376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8"},"summary_title":"The Fitzwilliam Museum"}],"lifecycle":{"creation":[{"maker":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-29619","uid":"adlib-agent-29619","uuid":"ef67fb8d-9a82-3301-9947-b8d0526effb3"},"summary_title":"Constable, John"}]}]},"summary_title":"Correspondence related to 'English Landscape' - John Constable to David Lucas","title":[{"value":"Correspondence related to 'English Landscape' - John Constable to David Lucas"}],"type":{"base":"object","type":"OBJECT"}}
