Charlotte St feby 26. 1830
Dear Lucas -
I am anxious to see you to have further talk about the plates -
first
I want to know how forward the “Evening” is & the retouched Stoke for I am desirous of ‘eight’’ being all you engaged on for me – if it does not delay the work too long a time
I have not the will to become the owner of the large plate of the Castle but I [t/n: word deleted] am – anxious that it should be fine - & will take all pains with it – it cannot fail of being so – if I may now judge – I have take much pains with the last proof of the ‘’Summerland’’ - but I fear I shall be obliged to reject it – it has never recovered its first trip up – and the skey with the new ground is and ever will be as rotten as cow dung.
I like your first plates – for are by far (very far) the best but I allow much for your distractions since – with those devils the printers – and your financies – and other matters – not in unison with that patient toil – which ought always to govern the habits of us both – but more perhaps yours -
---

Note: This letter continues on a separate sheet, which was not part of this donation. It became part of the Museum’s collection in 1951 and can be located here – Constable/EL/1/8/MS1-1951.</value>
