The bifold letter was vertically folded. The published transcript of this letter can be found in Shirley (No. 17, page 27) and Beckett (page 327). A pencil inscription on the top reads 'April 1830'.\n\nTRANSCRIPT:\n\n---\n[postmark]\nTo\nMr David Lucas\n57 Harrow Road. corner\nof Hermatage St Paddington\n\nDear Lucas,\n         This week will finish my business at the Academy*- when I hope we shall resume our joint labours on the plates. it has been unlucky to have been obliged to have lost so much time at this particular season but I could not help it but I believe there has not been a touch put to one of them for this last three weeks.\n         I am now fairly sick of the concerne and as they have been the first - so I devoutly hope they will be the last plate I shall ever see done from my own works under my own eye. but remember dear Lucas I am not at all blaming you - I take all to myself for I could not leave my job at the Academy.\n         We will resume the plate next week - I hope you have been busy on other things.\n                                                  Yours truly\n                                                 J.
