<value>A volume containing a fair draft of the verse drama "The World at Auction" by Michael Field, pseudonym used by Katharine Harris Bradley (1846-1914) and her niece Edith Emma Cooper (1862-1913). The text is neatly copied with a few revisions. The volume is foliated 1-149 with additional blank (unfoliated) leaves at the back. A letter from Bradley's solicitors including details of the bequest is pasted on the front flyleaf.

Accompanied by 4 loose leaves outlining "Tableau I - IV". A note on the first leaf states; "The original draught of the World at Auction, conceived one Sunday Evening while Father was reading aloud one of Robertson's Sermons, + written down that same evening."

A note at the end states "Begun Nov. 12th 1895 [Completed] December 19th 1896." The work was published in 1898.</value>
