<value>This is a letter from John Constable to David Lucas, dated 30 September 1830. The published transcript of this letter can be found in Shirley (No. 27, page 34) and Beckett (page 332). The leaf has been numbered S27, referring to the order in Shirley's publication. A pencil inscription on top reads '30 Sep. 1830'.

Dear Lucas .
I shall be at home 'till 4 or 1/2 past. Do you have wish to see me. or have you a proof of the ''Shoar''* - or 'Noon' to show - or to send -
I send a few touch'd proof to put to your stock - and the Easil - it is wide & steady - and not too high or large -
Come if you can. I have a parcel to take to Hampd this afternoon or I would come round.
Tell me when you letter the Stoke.
                                                             J.C.
     30 Sept
     1830
     Charlotte St -

*Shirley identifies this word as ''Stoor'' and writes that it most probably refers to 'River Stour'. Beckett identifies the word as ''Shoar'' and suggests that it refers to 'Seabeach'.

There is an inverted ink inscription on the bottom right of the verso. It reads 'Constable'.

According to Beckett (page 332), the last paragraph may refer to the change in the lettering of the title of Stoke. The hitherto used fine open lettering was to be thickened at the sides to make the titles stand out more.</value>
