For Mr Lucas
Do not forget an India proof of the Morng for Leslie - as a companion to his Eveng -

Dear Lucas
              I send the picture* -
Leslie will prefer the Glebe farm & I think his** to be engraved..
I wonder if the present Glebe farm plate would work into [t/n: 'the' crossed out] a new composition of the same.
I saw Reynolds*** in a Coach this morng - he looks fearfully - his eyes are started - his face thin. hi appearance is a fearfull memento in my opinion -
                                                   Yours truly
                                            John Constable

I go into the City at 10 tomrrw mrng - if you want to see me come to breakfast -
''The Mill Stream'' will be a favrite -
                                                            Ever Yours J.C.

---

*Beckett supposes this picture to be Hadleigh Castle.

**Shirley's footnote for 'his' reads: 'Possibly the watercolour of 'Jaques', which was then in Leslie's possession - The distinction here made between the 'Glebe Farm' and Leslie's picture makes it certain that the former was engraved from the painting afterwards bought by Mr. Sheepshanks, and not from the sketch of the same subject belonging to Leslie.

***Shirley notes that S.W. Reynolds had recently suffered a paralytic stroke.</value>
