The leaf has been numbered S71, referring to the order in Shirley's publication. \n\nTRANSCRIPT:\n\n---\n<recto>\n                                                                                          D      Sep. 27th 1831\nDear Lucas\n                   I am most anxious to see you -(I go to [^] old Mr Stothard at 6. for half an hour.)\n       I fear that certainly I must engrave the ''Waterloo'' - the ships I now fear are too common place & vulgar - & will never unite with the general feeling of the book\n       Though I want variety - I dont want a ''hotch potch'' - we must not have any one ''uncongenial'' subject. if we have it cannot fail of tinging the whole book - & imparting a discordant feeling.\n       All this has cost me an anxious morning with Mr. Stewart* - a man of the best taste and judgement now alive - only still all is my own feeling - I do'nt mean American Stewart - God forbid - Yours\n                                                                                                                       dear Lucas\nHow is your dear Child                                                                              ever truly J.
