Shirley's footnote for it reads: 'Leslie p. 196, quotes from one of Constable's sketch-books a draft for a dedication of the English Landscape to Fisher. Probably the dedication here in question was that of 'The Lock' (35), which was the subject of some discussion at the beginning of this year. Fisher was already dead, and the English Landscape appeared without a dedication. cf. No. 112n.' Beckett's notes on this are as follows: 'The reference to a dedication is mysterious. Mention will presently be made of a letter which Constable proposed sending to Archdeacon Fisher in regard to English Landscape, but it is possible that he is here referring to a large engraving which Lucas was undertaking at his own risk, now that his work for Constable looked like coming to an end. This was the well-known Lock, which was to be done, not from the picture exhibited in 1824, but from a replica made by Constable with the assistance of John Dunthorne.'"}]},"identifier":[{"accession_number":"Constable\/EL\/1\/1\/71","primary":true,"type":"accession number","value":"Constable\/EL\/1\/1\/71"},{"priref":"110009219","type":"priref","value":"110009219"},{"type":"uri","uri":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110009219","value":"https:\/\/data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk\/id\/object\/110009219"}],"institutions":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-149638","uid":"adlib-agent-149638","uuid":"7376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8"},"summary_title":"The Fitzwilliam Museum"}],"lifecycle":{"creation":[{"maker":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"agent-29619","uid":"adlib-agent-29619","uuid":"ef67fb8d-9a82-3301-9947-b8d0526effb3"},"summary_title":"Constable, John"}]}]},"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","units":"mm","value":"202"},{"dimension":"Width","units":"mm","value":"190"}]},"summary_title":"MS Letter, Constable to Lucas","title":[{"value":"MS Letter, Constable to Lucas"}],"type":{"base":"object","type":"OBJECT"}}
