Both Shirley and Beckett believe that this letter was the ''too severe'' one to which Constable refers in his letter dated 20 April 1832 (Constable\/EL\/1\/1\/86). The published transcript of this letter can be found in Shirley (No. 103, page 80) and Beckett (page 395). The leaf has been numbered S103, referring to the order in Shirley's publication. A pencil inscription on the top reads \u2018?
