Both Shirley and Beckett date it to early June 1832. The published transcript of this letter can be found in Shirley (No. 112, page 85) and Beckett (page 377). The leaf has been numbered S112, referring to the order in Shirley's publication. A pencil inscription on the top reads \u2018? Sep 1833'.\n\nTRANSCRIPT:\n\n---\n<recto>\nDear Lucas -\n                    I send the proof which I see no reason to wish altered. Pray lose not an hour from the plate that I may have it ready & printed all compleat this week.\n        I mean to get Sparrow all in order with covers - titles - index &c &c all to be ready - and perhaps in imitation of Mr Reinagle** over the way - I will put up a large board over the door. to say that I sell these things.\n       Pray send back a Smirke*** in any condition - I shall stick close to you 'till we have done  - Yours\n                                                                                                                                                J.C.\n\n<verso\/cover>\nI have seen Mr Morrison**** who will not object to the dedication in his name - he is a good & very kind man -  J.C.\nNever mind sending my picture -\n\nMr Lucas [t\/n: written inversely as the leaf was folded and this half became the cover]\n\n---\n*Sparrow was the letterpress printer.\n\n**Ramsay Richard Reinagle was Constable's neighbour in Charlotte Street, and was arranging a sale of pictures at his house on 20 June 1832.\n\n***Shirley and Beckett identify this as the 'Lady Pentweazle', engraved by Lucas and published in 1832. This was an external project that Lucas undertook.
