<value>This is a letter from John Constable to David Lucas. The date reads 'Jy 23 1834'. Shirley reads it as July, but Beckett notes that 'Jy' was Constable's usual contraction for January. Beckett further suggests that perhaps Constable made a mistake in the year as there is no work that Lucas is known to have been doing for Constable in January 1834. The published transcript of this letter can be found in Shirley (No. 155, page 116) and Beckett (page 408). The leaf has been numbered S155, referring to the order in Shirley's publication.
