To
Mr Lucas -

Dear Lucas - I have been looking at the Ridley Coburn* - pray send it - it will get you more votes** than all the landscapes in the world.
I am glad you send the Lady Pentweazle - that is better still.

If you really consider the whole ''case'' - your having done the above prints do not does not make them less excellent - than they really are = and it does not prove that you did not do the landscapes -
Look a Woolett for variety - wether history or Landscape - the Wolfe*** or the Niobe*** - or the Ostade*** - or the hogue*** - think of these things - & remember that whatever we have done well - will & must rise up in our behalf - your object is votes - for the praise of half those voters is not worth the having - Yrs. truly
J.C
