<value>This is a letter written by Algernon Graves. In a note on the last page, John Charrington suspects the receiver to be Henry Studdy Theobold - the note reads '? to HS. Theobald / J.C.'. A pencil inscription on the top reads ‘Constable-Lucas 18'.

                                                                                                                 May 23rd 1885
Dear Sir
I have been through all the letters and have dated all those that I have been able to fixed a date =
In the Wrapper ''No Date'' are a few that it is impossible to fix -
The [facets?] I have used in fixing the date are the plates mentioned, the ink & writing and the mention of the men Pitt & Holland
the addresses Fig me altogether for up to 1832. Lucas lived at 27 Harrow Road and then at Westbourne Street but in 1833 I find letters addressed to the first address [.] he must have kept both places going -
I have got an index to the plates mentioned but have not had [?] to copy it - I will let you have it in a few days. but as you might like to have the letters for tomorrow, I send them now
The references to the plates are very interesting. and prove that a great many of those published by Lucas after Constables death were engraved in his lifetime and touched by him.
Jaques & the dog appears in many arrangements of parts also Will Lotts House
The are a most interesting lotabout 183[?]&7 - connected with the large Salisbury plate = giving all the corrections to Lucas - his last letter March 30-1837 (he died [?[) - refers to it - one paper shows the prices paid 15Ss each plate but few are put at 17Ss - in a letter that I have put with it he complains of this extra charge but [?] to it - but declines to pay more than 15 for any others -
                                                                    I remain
                                                                    Yours obediently
                                                                           A Graves
                                                                          ----------------------
