Dear Lucas
I am sorry to hear of your being confined by illness - I send Joe to know how you are -
We are all at a standstill about the plate we know not how to entitle it - I have seen Hodgson on the subject he would prefer it with a ''Dedication'' - of some kind. to give it an eclat - [t/n: 'after' crossed out] I left him with a promise to get a title sketched - & send the person to me - this he did not do - & [t/n: word/letter crossed out] a few days - are now lost - I sent to him for the address of the writing engraver & he sends it - Mr Becker 18 Euston Square - New Road - is [t/n: 'that' crossed out] the same as yours
I saw Chantry on the subject, & told him my perplexity - he said he would try to help me - I asked [t/n: 'him' crossed out] - to allow me to dedicate it to him. he said cannot ''cannot you find a better man than me'' I said not in my estimation - I wish to know - if the Mr Becker is your man that I may see him & get him to sketch a plan for me leaving space for a name.
John Constable
