The letter is 2 leaves (both bifold) and mounted separately in the volume. Due to the way it has been mounted, the second leaf should be read verso first recto second. The first leaf has been numbered 2 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume. The second leaf has been numbered 2a in the bottom right-hand corner. In this letter, Brontë assures Miss Wooler that her and her sisters' railway investment is intact despite a 'Railway Panic' and that she and Emily disagree on what to do with the shares. She writes about the importance of relationships between sisters, alleges that her brother Branwell is not seeking employment and criticises the different way that boys and girls are brought up. Miss Wooler is currently in Bromsgrove, near Birmingham, with Mrs. Moore as her companion. Brontë praises Miss Wooler's current state of life after having worked diligently during her younger years and confesses that the status of unmarried women is a subject that occupies her mind. Damage to verso side of folded leaf 1: there appears to be a burn mark obscuring a word in line 2 ('I think too that the mode of bringing them up is strange'...).
