The letter is 1 leaf (bifold), written on mourning paper, and mounted in the volume. The leaf has been numbered 6 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume.  \n\nIn this letter, Bront\u00eb informs Miss Wooler of her sister Emily's death and Anne's illness. She writes that her faith has been a necessary salve for both her father and herself during this period: 'these things would be too much if reason, unsupported by religion - were condemned to hear them alone'. She writes that had she known the loss she was to endure (her brother Branwell died a few months prior to Emily in September 1848) it 'would have seemed to me quite intolerable' yet when they occurred, she 'endured without frustration'. She adds that while 'the crisis of bereavement has an acute pang which goads to exertion', it is the 'desolate after feeling' which 'sometimes paralyses'.
