<value>This is a letter written from Haworth, Yorkshire by Charlotte Brontë to Miss Margaret Wooler, dated February 17 1852. This is an incomplete letter: there is only the first leaf (bifold) mounted in the volume. The leaf has been numbered 13 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume.

In this letter, Brontë says she is recently returned from a fortnight's stay at Brookroyd (the Nussey home) and that this stay was beneficial to both her health and her 'spirits' which were 'prostrated' by the period of her illness. She wishes for 'serene weather' which would help her recover further and writes that 'these incessantly howling winds depress the nervous system much'. She requests news of Mr. Thomas, Margaret Wooler's younger brother recently gone to America. She also requests one of Mrs. Moore's circulars and mentions the schooling situations of one of Elizabeth Gaskell's daughters and Lady Shuttleworth's daughter. She gives further news of her stay at Brookroyd and says that Miss. Wooler was much missed by both herself and Ellen Nussey. In the final paragraph of leaf 1, she discusses Napolean III, the possibility of French invasion, the reaction of British newspapers and her perception of the Duke of Wellington's reaction.

A full edition of this letter can be found in Margaret Smith's 'The Letters of Charlotte Brontë', Vol. 3 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 2004), pp. 21-22.</value>
