The letter is incomplete: comprising 1 leaf only (bifold) and mounted in the volume. The leaf has been numbered 15 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume.  \n\nIn this letter, Bront\u00eb writes from Filey Bay on the North Yorkshire coast, where she says she has been staying for three weeks 'quite alone'. She explains that she was unable to accompany Ellen Nussey to the Sussex coast and understood from Ellen that Miss Wooler would not visit Scarborough until autumn therefore has ventured to Filey Bay alone as 'change and sea-air had become necessary'. She says she suffered greatly in the first week or ten days from head-ache and the poor weather but has since improved and hopes to return home in a day or two. \n\nHaving received the advice that 'people with my tendency to congestion of the liver should walk three or four hours everyday' she has done a lot of walking and is 'sunburnt and weather-beaten' as a result. She adds that 'torpid liver makes torpid brains' as she has not been able to make much progress with her work, though still hopes to meet Miss Wooler in the autumn. The main reason for her visit to Filey Bay is to look in on Anne's grave (handwritten clarification 'Anne's tomb' added; hand unclear) where she has found five mistakes that need correcting.
