Brontë thanks Miss Wooler for an invitation but cannot join her currently as she is expecting a visit from Elizabeth Gaskell. Gaskell was to have visited in June but was not able to when Brontë fell ill with influenza. She finally visited Haworth in September and her impressions of the parsonage and its inhabitants provided a foundation for her later writing of 'The Life of Charlotte Brontë'.
