The letter is 2 leaves (bifold leaf 1) and mounted separately in the volume. Leaf 1 has been numbered 28 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume. Leaf 2 follows and has been numbered 28a in the right-hand bottom corner of the verso side.

Brontë writes to Miss Wooler during a busy honeymoon period: she and Nicholls were previously in Wales but she cannot write in detail as she has 'six letters to answer' as well as friends waiting to take her for a drive. She asks Miss Wooler to forward the note onto Ellen Nussey as she is unable to write to her currently. They have since been to Dublin where they have seen 'the college library, museum, chapel' but did not see more due to a 'bad cold' Brontë developed.

They then meet Nicholls' relatives of whom Brontë develops a positive impression and also visit the house Nicholls grew up in, which she says she is 'singularly interested in' and resembles a 'gentleman's country-seat'. She says she likes her 'new relations' and is pleased to hear Nicholls praised in all quarters. Mrs. Bell (Nicholls' uncle's widow) 'nursed [Brontë] with kindness and skill' and she says she is 'greatly better now'. Brontë writes that she is 'thankful to God for having enabled me to make what seems a right choice - and I pray to be enabled to repay as I ought the affectionate devotion of a truthful, honourable, unboastful man'. The letter is signed C.B. Nicholls.

A full edition of this letter can be found in Margaret Smith's 'The Letters of Charlotte Brontë', Vol. 3 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 2004), pp. 275-77.
[{"@link":
[{"@link":
[{"@link":
{"@link":
