The letter is 1 leaf (bifold) and mounted in the volume. The leaf has been numbered 33 in the upper right-hand corner according to its order in the volume however not according to chronology.

Brontë writes to Miss Wooler from her honeymoon in Ireland. A pencil note at the top of the page states that: 'Miss Catherine Wooler - the second of the W. sisters'. This is likely from Sir Clifford Allbutt as indicated by the typescript note of contents enclosed with the volume (Brontë(C)/37). Catherine Wooler is said to have taught Brontë French at Roe Head School; Brontë signs off as 'your old pupil'.

Brontë praises Arthur Bell Nicholls as a 'good man' and hopes to always be grateful 'for the kindness and affection he shows me'. On the day of their wedding, they went to Wales. Despite poor weather, they saw some 'splendid scenery' - some of which Brontë says surpassed what she has seen of the English Lakes. Following this they travelled to Dublin and she would like to wrote further of Dublin however she received a 'dozen more' letters in the same packet as Miss Wooler's, and she writes that 'my husband is just now sitting before me kindly stretching his patience to the utmost, but wishing me very much to have done writing and put on my bonnet for a walk'.

After Dublin, they visited Banagher where Nicholls' relatives live. Though Brontë herself is of Irish descent on her father Patrick Brontë's side, she observes: 'I was also greatly surprised to find so much of English order and repose in the family habits and arrangements. I had heard a great deal about Irish negligence etc. I own that till I came to Kilkee I saw little of it'. In Kilkee, they are staying in the 'splendidly designated' West End Hotel, which appears to be less grand than in its name. Nonetheless, she says that the outdoors compensate for the indoors: 'so magnificent an ocean – so bold and grand a coast – I never yet saw'.

A full edition of this letter can be found in Margaret Smith's 'The Letters of Charlotte Brontë', Vol. 3 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 2004), pp. 278-79.
[{"@link":
[{"@link":
[{"@link":
{"@link":
{"@link":
{"@link":
