<value>This is a letter written by Elizabeth Gaskell to Miss Margaret Wooler, dated November 12 1855 (the year is not given), following Charlotte Brontë's death. The letter is 1 leaf (bifold) and mounted in the volume. The leaf has been numbered 34 in the upper right-hand corner according to chronology and its order in the volume.

In this letter, Gaskell thanks Miss Wooler for her 'valuable parcel of letters', promises that they will be taken good care of and returned to Miss Wooler 'before very long'. Of Bronte's correspondence to Miss Wooler, she writes: ‘I hardly know how it is but I like these better than any other series of letters of hers that I have seen’. Of these others, she notes that has seen letters to '"Emily" ... Miss Nussey ... and ... Mr. Smith'. She hopes it is alright if she writes to Miss Wooler with any questions that may arise and says that her 'work ... is getting on but slowly' (referring to the writing of the biography 'The Life of Charlotte Brontë').</value>
