She says they have only seen the Trollopes once and that Mrs Tom Trollope is pregnant for the first time. Barrett Brownign writes, 'I pity married people without children, though often they are complete enough in themselves. It’s a wreath, with the two ends loose:—just the tie is wanting–’. She describes their son ‘Pen’ Browning and comments on the latest Dumas that she is reading. Barrett Browning ends the letter by asking whether Miss Mitford’s ‘American friends’ ever mention ‘the rapping spirits’.
