In this letter, Barrett Browning discusses the political situation in Italy which has troubled her and asks whether Haworth is really going back to England. Barrett Browning says it is good that Haworth is not spending the summer in Italy where the weather is very hot. She says the country in Sienna, though not romantic like Lucca, is pretty. Barrett Browning is not well. Robert Browning is nursing her and teaching Peni. They have books and newspapers in Italian and English. She says Walter Savage Landor is in Siena and Browning has accepted the strange office of being his guardian. Landor looks better than he previously did and he longs for England but his friends advise against it. He is now writing articles in Latin on Garibaldi.
