<value>This is a letter written from Florence, Italy. In this letter, Barrett Browning says that Haworth is in a ‘chronic transitional state’ and Barrett Browning cannot advise. Nonetheless she asks whether Haworth would not prefer to go to England. She says prices are going up in Italy due to the political situation and that ‘In one’s native country, one feels stronger & safer as a single woman’. She says they (the Brownings) are ‘rolling stones’ and there is no point in ‘rolling’ after them. Barrett Browning has been ‘nearly as ill as possible’ but she is better now. They will go to Rome where prices should be cheaper due to the political situation. They are not scared of revolution. She also mentions Isa Blagden, the Eckleys and Mrs Tuckermann. She suggests trying another platform for Haworth's novel if Chambers is taking too long. Walter Savage Landor is much better though longs for England and does not know they are going to Rome yet. They are taking Pen’s pony to Rome. Elizabeth Wilson is looking to let a room.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 27, pp. 24–28. (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2020). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 4514.</value>
