In this letter, Barrett Browning says she has not been able to express her gratitude for some of Haworth’s drawings due to not having her address. Sarianna Browning has provided an address but says Haworth is already moving. Barrett Browning does not have high expectations of the British public but she is being well received by the American public. They (the Brownings) will return to Florence after the end of May. She is anxious about Sicily. Barrett Browning asks Haworth's opinion of George Eliot's 'The Mill on the Floss'. She says the author is in Italy with George Henry Lewes though they remain aloof: 'The author is here, they say, with her elective affinity, & is seen on the Corso walking, or in the Vatican musing. Always together– They are said to visit nobody & to be beheld only at unawares–'. Theodore Parker is very ill. Robert Browning has been hard at work. They have a ‘thick Indian letter’ for Haworth but want a safe address to forward it to.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 28, pp. 8–11.
