<value>This is a letter written from Florence, Italy. In this short letter, Barrett Browning says she returns the ‘Athenæums, with the books’ and thanks Blagden ‘for much pleasure’. She says Charlotte Bronte’s Shirley is clever and better written than Jane Eyre but not as interesting. She also says they are delighted with The Caxtons.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 16, pp. 85–86 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2007). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 2837.</value>
