<value>This is a letter written from Tuscany, Italy. Barrett Browning apologises for her silence and says it was due to uncertainty of their next address after leaving Florence. She comments on the regular visitors they had in Florence ‘who came to us for coffee & smoking’ and speaks of one of their final evenings in Florence where ‘we were all bachelors together’ and Barrett Browning made tea and they discussed spiritualism, guests included: ‘Mr Tennyson was there, Mr Powers, & M. Villeri’. They discussed Faraday’s letter. Robert Browning holds out as the only skeptic regarding spiritualism. She is glad Blagden likes Frederick Tennyson’s poems. She praises him and Lytton as well as Lytton’s possibilities as a writer. She mentions Mr Turner. She says they will ask soon about rooms near Blagden as they must go to Rome in the winter. The Storys were their first visitors in Casa Tolemei. She also mentions Miss Cushman and wanting to know Mrs Brotherton better.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 19, p. 185–187 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2012). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 3232.</value>
