Barrett Browning says she felt ‘sad’ to read Blagden’s note on her medical treatment which has apparently caused her ‘knee-cap’ to be ‘more out of place than it was’. She asks how Dr Thomas Gerard Small accounts for such a ‘damning fact’. Robert Browning would have visited Blagden the previous day had he not been very unwell, however he will visit her on this day and ‘when the weather lets [her] out’ Barrett Browning will ‘run to [Blagden] straight’. She asks whether Blagden has anything to amuse her. Of Robert Lytton, she says: ‘We heard yesterday from Lytton who has had a sore throat & sprained his ankle, the two causes detaining him for three weeks on his bed & sofa. So there’s sympathy between you'. She also says that she and Pen ‘asked the ‘spirits’ last night’ regarding rappings.
