<value>This is a letter written from London, England. Barrett Browning is sorry to hear Blagden’s visit to Knebworth House (seat of the Lytton family) should be cut short because ‘Sir Edward was ill’. She says ‘I am vexed that Lytton shd have been absorbed away from you—because that could not be right.’. She also criticises Edward Bulwyer-Lytton’s ‘sensualism’ over spiritualism. Barrett Browning says they have had numerous visitors: Mrs Sartoris, Mr Fox, Mr Forster, Capt Aide, and Frederick Tennyson and his wife. She notes the cholera cases in Florence and that Blagden ‘cant think of going there this autumn’. The Brownings will go to Mrs Sartoris’ in the evening and meet the Tennysons. Frederick Tennyson asked after Blagden. She finds London ‘is more detestably London’ because her sister Arabel has left for Eastbourne where they will soon go as well.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 21, p. 240–241 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2014). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 3608.</value>
