<value>This is a letter written from Paris, France. Barrett Browning tells Blagden she is ‘perfectly unwise & wrong’ not to stay in Paris. She talks about the cheapness of Paris relative to London but also quality of the produce. She is certain Blagden would be charmed by Paris: ‘It’s Italian freedom & northern civilization, the two together. Yet you stay & fritter away your life among the high prices & low fogs of that detestable London’.

Despite her praise of Paris they fell into a ‘trap’ regarding their accommodation and are very uncomfortable consequently. They are visited by the two Lyttons and James Jackson Jarves. They all go to meet a medium together in the morning. Though she likes Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton she says ‘our Lytton is worth fifty of him’ referring to Robert Lytton. Sir Edward ‘particularly inquired’ about Blagden. John Forster only gave them ‘two evenings’. She says ‘Jerves cries out at the improvement in your looks’. In her postscript she complains she has neither pen or paper and mentions Home.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 21, p. 323–326 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2014). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 3666.</value>
